I paint computer related images in part because I am completely addicted to my computers. However, I usually have another concept in mind when I use any particular subject in my work.
The paintings based on Mac windows and punctuation keys are my way of exposing the human element infused within the design of technology. I see these subjects as mimicking gestures of human expression, be it loosely or obviously. Though I don't know if the designers of these objects deliberately created similarities, I think the fact that I see the human likeness shows our need to stay connected to the human, even in objects such as computers.
With the computer keys such as Esc and Home, I hope to evoke a narrative about events related to my childhood. I prefer not to spell out this narrative, but it may be more apparent if you check out the images from the exhibition Exposure.
