| A Romanian said about my work, "[it is] the need to control that which controls you." The paintings are based on medical images taken for migraine care. |
| The physical experience of a migraine can debilitate the body to the point of impeding the mind’s ability to function properly, however the mind has the capacity to overcome any difficulty. Forcing myself to make art while I have a migraine sometimes leads to interim relief of the symptoms. The continuous exchange of information between our body and mind is fascinating. Working in any medium becomes an opportunity to reflect upon and enhance the dialogue between the body and mind. The mind conceives of the idea and commands the body to execute. The body’s senses gather stock of the object’s progress and the mind evaluates and advises as necessary. I am intrigued by the human ability to reason, the recognition of self, and the mind as the critical identity. As this work progressed it became an obsessive process of self-exploration embodied in an iconic and repetitive study of my brain. |
